Dr Fiona Meyers

BVSc (Hons) PhD MANZCVS DipACVIM (Cardio)

Dr Fiona Meyers is the co-founder and co-owner of Veterinary Cardiologists Australia, and the second veterinary cardiologist in Australia.

After graduating as a veterinarian from the University of Queensland in 1996, Fiona ventured overseas to work “like James Herriot” in a rural small animal practice in the United Kingdom. Upon returning to Australia 2 years later, she focused her long-standing passion for cardiology by commencing her doctoral research in clinical cardiology and cardiovascular physiology at the University of Queensland.

On her path to becoming a specialist veterinary cardiologist, Fiona achieved membership of the Australian and New Zealand College of Veterinary Scientists in Small Animal Medicine in 2001 while continuing post-doctoral collaborative research in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Queensland. In 2003, Fiona commenced a competitive residency position in all-species cardiology at the University of California, Davis.

In 2006, Fiona completed an externship at the paediatric cardiology facility of Boston Children’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School, and passed the board examinations to become a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine and a registered specialist in veterinary cardiology.

Since returning to Australia in 2007, Fiona has continued to teach in the School of Veterinary Science at the University of Queensland and lectures to veterinarians both nationally and internationally.

Acknowledging the depth of her bond with her hairless cat, Simie, and very hairy dog, Maple, Fiona is passionate about providing the very best care possible to her cardiac patients and their families.
